What does printer ink consist of?
Printer Ink is commonly a liquid that contains dyes or pigments. Pigments give ink their color and they can come from a variety of sources containing nitrogen compounds – commonly known as dyes. Printers use ink to make copies of digital text or images.
More than 90% of the inks produced are inks in which the color is mediated by pigments rather than by the dyes used in writing inks.
How is printing ink produced?
Ink is made with a combination of ingredients such as paint, resin, solvents, pigments and additives including waxes and lubricants. Black ink is made with carbon black pigments, and white pigments such as titanium dioxide can be used to lighten other ink colors.
Paint is a clear liquid that is the basis of every ink. A variety of paints are made for different ink colors, but they are all made by mixing the resins, solvents, and additives, often at high temperatures, to a homogeneous mixture.
Resins that bind together the ink components react with each other and make the paint more viscous. The pigments are then mixed and chopped into the varnish to break up clumps so that the colors are evenly distributed throughout the ink.
How are the different colors shaped?
Various colored pigments are used to make different colors of ink. Accordingly, black and white ink is made from carbon black and titanium dioxide and can be used by itself or with other pigments to change their color.
Traditional printers use four major colors of ink: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. These colors, when mixed in different proportions, can make up the full range of colors needed to print in full color.
Newer printers often have additional inks, such as light cyan, light magenta, or gray, to improve image quality and color reproduction accuracy.

How is ink different from toner?
